About Raleigh
Attractions in Raleigh
North Carolina Museum of Art
The North Carolina Museum of Art is inconveniently located at the western edge of town, but it's well worth visiting for its fine collection of antiquities and paintings, with works by Chardin, Monet and Georgia O'Keeffe. The museum also runs a variety of free programs, including art lectures, films and children's art workshops.
North Carolina Museum of History
The North Carolina Museum of History has a good exhibit on the history of the state, with a dugout canoe, flags, and photographs from the Civil War. There's also an interesting display on the history of aviation, which features a model of a Wright Brothers plane.
North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences
The world's only dinosaur specimen with a heart is kept at the modern, airy North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. There's also a unique and scary Acrocanthosaurus, five habitat dioramas and lots of well-done taxidermy.
